DOW JONES–Unilever is postponing the planned spin-off and listing of its ice cream business, Magnum Ice Cream Company. When making the announcement, the British consumer goods company referred to the current US government shutdown. According to the company, a general meeting planned for Tuesday to vote on the planned spinoff will still take place.
The company had originally planned to list Magnum on Euronext Amsterdam, the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange on November 10.
Unilever also announced that the company wanted to complete the spin-off this year.
Due to the U.S. government shutdown, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will not be able to declare effective the U.S. registration statement required for Magnum to begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange, Unilever said.
The group will now provide concrete data on the spinoff as soon as possible. This was included as a risk in a shareholder circular distributed earlier this month, it added.
According to Unilever, a shareholders’ meeting to vote on the spin-off is planned for Tuesday.
