In the new documentary, we consider whether Lucy Letby, who was convicted of several child murders, was innocent after all.

British nurse Lucy Letby convicted in 2023 of the murders of seven babies and the attempted murders of seven babies. At the time of the verdict, 33-year-old Letby received a life sentence.
– He was a very calm, calculating criminal, but we didn’t notice anything at the time, says the mother of one of the victims in a short documentary shown today on MTV3 Lucy Letby: Baby killer or convicted innocent?.
Infant deaths took place within one year in 2015–2016. Letby worked as a nurse in a ward where babies, some of them only a few days old, were patients. According to the court, Letby had brutally murdered the babies, among other things, by injecting them with air.
Swedish professor Mikael Norman now suspects that the sentence Letby received was wrong. According to an expert report published in February 2025, the medical evidence did not suggest that the babies died as a result of intentional harm.

According to the expert panel, infant deaths were more likely due to illnesses and structural errors in the health care system, which led to inadequate care and deaths.
– According to our investigation, he has not committed these crimes, says Norman, who sat on the expert panel, about Letby.
– Our investigations showed in all cases that there were no signs of serious crimes. There are other, in our opinion, more plausible and likely explanations for what happened in that neonatal unit ten years ago.
Letby’s guilt is indicated, among other things, by the nurse’s handwritten notes, on which she has recorded, among other things, the dates of birth and death of the dead children. The notes also contain the sentences “I’m bad,” “I did it” and “I don’t know if I killed them.”
