A deacon and a priest do not have the same job. A priest is authorized to administer most sacraments, a deacon is authorized to administer baptism and marriage. He also assists with other liturgical services.
In an exceptional celebration in St. Salvator’s Cathedral in Bruges, three men are ordained as deacons. They trained together and also chose to be ordained together. “That is quite exceptional, because there are not very many candidates to become a priest or pastoral worker or deacon. It makes us all the more happy when people come forward,” says Lode Aerts, Bishop of Bruges.
