“What he left behind is priceless. He was such a special person,” says Durst, who co-founded Limp Bizkit with Rivers. “He was a very special, genuine person. And when he went on stage, a different Sam emerged and he was a beast.”
According to Durst, Rivers helped him make Limp Bizkit a success. “He didn’t hesitate for a moment when I asked him. He just said, ‘Yes, let’s go. Sounds good. We’ll do it.’ I was 25 and he was 18, young and full of fire and talent. And I just knew that I was very, very lucky to have him in my life. I am so grateful, so incredibly grateful that I got to share a part of this journey with Sam Rivers – a huge part of this journey.”
“I am super, super grateful and I already miss him terribly. And all the support and love I have seen online is overwhelming,” Durst concludes. “He really made an impact on the world, and his music will last. I just love him so much.”
Limp Bizkit announced the death of 48-year-old Rivers in the night from Saturday to Sunday. The cause of death is unknown.
