Alba Berlin has reached the quarter-finals in the BBL Cup.

In front of 6,132 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle, the Berliners won their round of 16 game against the German basketball runner-up ratiopharm Ulm after an increase in performance with 90:68 (39:42). The best throwers at Alba were the outstanding Boogie Ellis with 21 and Sam Griesel with twelve points.

The Berliners completely missed the start. Hardly a throw was made on offense and they had no access on defense. After five and a half minutes, the hosts only had four points. Ulm was already 14. So the Berliners were clearly behind early on.

Alba only woke up in the second quarter. They now defended much more aggressively and made it more difficult for Ulm to score points. They came closer, point by point, but failed several times to equalize or take the lead themselves.

After the break the game turned completely around. Ulm despaired of Berlin’s defense, didn’t score a point for five and a half minutes and Alba turned the game around with a 14-0 run (53:42). Ulm had no chance in the final section.
