The Saarlanders give Greuther Fürth no chance and confirm their lead in the table. 1. FC Nürnberg experienced an unfortunate Sunday.
SV Elversberg maintained its lead in the 2nd Bundesliga – with a gala performance against Greuther Fürth. The Saarlanders won 6-0 (1-0) against the Franconians at the end of the 9th match day and relegated Schalke 04, who had become the new leaders after Friday’s win against Hannover 96, back to second place.
Bambasé Conté (27th minute), the outstanding Younes Ebnoutalib with a hat-trick (48th, 56th, 80th), Jason Ceka (85th) and Florian Le Joncour (90th + 3) scored the win on Sunday afternoon, which was completely deserved, even at a high level. Elversberg has now been unbeaten for a total of seven games. Fürth, on the other hand, remains in the gray middle of the table after their fifth defeat of the season.
After a balanced initial phase at the Kaiserlinde, the home team got better and better into the game and recorded their first approaches to the goal. After almost half an hour, it was Conté who took the lead with a shot from full speed after a one-two with Lasse Günther. In stoppage time in the first half, Elversberg’s supposedly second goal was disallowed due to an offside position.
After the restart there was no longer any doubt that it was 2-0: Ebnoutalib increased the score with a remarkable volley. And just a few minutes later he finally made things clear when he took advantage of a mistake by Fürth’s Lukas Reich. Elversberg didn’t let anything go wrong, and in the final phase Ebnoutalib completed his hat trick with a clean sweep.
Meanwhile, 1. FC Nürnberg dramatically missed its second win in a row: the “club” couldn’t get past a 1-1 (1-0) draw against Bundesliga relegated Holstein Kiel due to a late goal. Mohamed Ali Zoma (28th) scored for Miroslav Klose’s team, Carl Johansson (86th) managed to equalize for the “Storks” shortly before the end. The Nuremberg team are only one point ahead of the relegation zone.
Both teams initially neutralized each other before Zoma ran away from the indisposed Kiel defense after a pass from Julian Justvan and scored from a tight angle. It was the first goal of the season for the 21-year-old, who came from Italian third division club UC AlbinoLeffe in the summer.
