After a rather weak first half, the Wetzlar team is coming back in the handball Bundesliga. But that’s not enough to win a point.
HSG Wetzlar and MT Melsungen lost in the handball Bundesliga on Saturday. HSG suffered a 26:33 defeat at HC Erlangen. In the first half, the Wetzlar team closed the gaps too rarely. The home team used 83 percent of their throws, the HSG only 70. Almost logical: Wetzlar had to let Erlangen go and went into the locker room with minus 7.
Immediately after the break, HSG started a 3-0 run and held on better. But she had to keep up with the deficit throughout. Philipp Ahouansou was the best thrower for the Wetzlar team with six hits. In an interview with Dyn, he said afterwards: “We didn’t manage to keep calm in the first half and couldn’t get any traction in defence. Even if we got better in the second half, it wasn’t enough in the end.” The HSG is now in 14th place and will play against Göppingen on Thursday.

MT Melsungen too weak for Kiel
MT Melsungen was unable to achieve its planned revenge for the lost cup final on Saturday. At THW Kiel, the Melsung team lost 29:31. David Mandic was ruled out with a shoulder injury after crashing into the boards against Lisbon during the week. The MT made too many technical errors and were left behind against the record champions in the backcourt and in the goalkeeper duel. So it was logically 12:17 at the break from the Bartenwetzer’s point of view.
Nikolaj Enderleit tries it out against THW Kiel.
At least the goalkeepers improved in the second half, but the MT did not match the defensive strength that had characterized them in previous appearances in Kiel. Even forward, the Melsungers remained without the decisive ideas to unsettle Kiel again. Once again a bright spot: Florian Drosten, who has been playing well for weeks with eleven goals (he stayed ice cold from the line six times). For now, MT is ninth after bankruptcy. Lemgo is coming to Kassel next Saturday.
THW Kiel – MT Melsungen 31:29 (17:12)
