Martijn Krabbé was guest of honor at the Televizier gala last night, but did not want to give interviews to the press before and after the show. “I have to be very economical with my energy,” said the presenter.
The terminally ill Martijn Krabbé was fed up front row at the Televizier gala, where he was named best presenter of the year. At the start of the gala he received a standing ovation from his TV colleagues in the Carré theater. “I’m already crying, now! What a tribute,” exclaims the RTL 4 star, known for Buying Without Watching and The Voice.
‘It depended’
Martijn could hardly be there. “It all depended on it. It is mainly made possible by all kinds of medications, some of which have a weirder name than the other. I am very happy to be here and I hope to keep it up as long as possible, but if I am away for a while, don’t be surprised!”
When he is declared the winner, he says on stage: “This has really added a golden touch to my retirement from television. Thank you.”
Thanks to Wendy
Martijn thanks his bosses at RTL, but also his former Voice buddy. “An honorable mention for Wendy van Dijk. My dear colleague whom I love very much. She is the person who always looks after my matters of the heart has taken care of. There are many of those in my family. Never a dull momentI would say. Thank you very much.”
Then he calls his wife Deborah onto the stage: “You didn’t think you could leave here without tribute. Yes, darling. They sometimes say that you have to love each other in good times and bad times. Thank you!“
Economical with energy
We see Show news that Martijn did not want to give interviews prior to the gala. “Guys, I hope you understand that tonight – I’m not afraid that I won’t make it to the end, it will be fine – I have to be very economical with my energy.”
He continues: “I hope you don’t mind that I’m not doing the interviews tonight, because if you give one person the opportunity to be interviewed, then I also find it annoying to say to the rest: ‘Well, sorry, that’s not possible for a while.’ So I chose this. We are going to have a great time tonight.”
Not unfair
Telegraaf reporter Jordi Versteegden tells the desk that he finds it very understandable. “Nobody thinks that’s unfair. It’s unfair what he has. That’s unfair!”
Wendy also says that she came to the gala especially for Martijn: “That’s why I’m in full uniform. I haven’t been in recent years, but I thought: if Tijn comes now and it’s going to happen, then of course I really have to sit at the front.”
Martijn wipes away a tear:
