An emergency ordinance has been introduced in Raamsdonksveer due to increasing nuisance caused by fireworks and threats. Things got out of hand in the Baskweer district in recent days. Young people cause unrest there in the evening by lighting fireworks, intimidating and even abusing people. Acting mayor Madeleine van Toorenburg is therefore taking strong action.

According to Van Toorenburg, that is enough. “There are signals from residents who feel unsafe in their own neighborhood. People who say something about fireworks on the street are sometimes even intimidated or threatened. That is unacceptable.”

The nuisance comes from a group of young people who hang around at the playgrounds on d’Onmoedelaan and Kardeel. Residents hardly dare to go outside in the evening. On Monday the situation got completely out of hand. A woman was assaulted when she confronted young people about lighting fireworks. The assault was filmed and shared on social media. The woman has filed a report.

Jumbo parking lot
There have been calls to gather at the Jumbo branch in the village and disrupt order. Mayor Van Toorenburg has therefore introduced an emergency ordinance for part of Raamsdonksveer. This applies to the parking lot at the Jumbo on Boterpolderlaan, the playground and green areas on d’Onmoedelaan and surrounding streets, the playground on Kardeel and surrounding streets.

apply in this area strict rules. For example, group formation of three people or more is prohibited, there is a ban on fireworks, the possession of flammable substances or objects is prohibited, alcohol is not permitted and face-covering clothing may not be worn. Anyone who does not comply with the rules risks a fine or arrest.
