A tense intersection marked C5N’s “Hard to Tame” program this Thursday, when host Pablo Duggan and pro-government journalist Mariana Brey engaged in a strong live exchange. It all started during a debate about the statements of candidate Karen Reichardt, who described the opposition electorate as suffering from “a mental illness.”
Brey repudiated those words, but also pointed out previous comments by his partner Alejandro “Pitu” Salvatierra, whom he accused of having suggested that “any citizen who votes to the right must be killed.”
Duggan, visibly irritated, interrupted with a blunt “Shut up for a minute, please,” raising the tone of the exchange. Brey reacted by accusing him of “bad temper” for not having equally firmly questioned Salvatierra, whose statements—according to her—had occurred “very recently and he was already elected legislator.” Duggan defended his colleague and denied the accusations: “He never said that or thinks that way.”
The discussion became personal, with Brey warning: “You’re interrupting me and turning things around, you know I don’t like that,” and Duggan replying: “Don’t turn things around on me because we ended badly,” hinting at previous friction in their working relationship. The rest of the panel tried to intervene without success and the climate of tension persisted. The episode quickly went viral on social networks, where many users commented on the intensity of the confrontation and Salvatierra’s defense. It is not the first time that Duro de Domar shows friction between its figures, but this crossing, with personal overtones and crossed accusations, became one of the most talked about moments of the television day.
