The European Football Union (UEFA) has begun investigations against Italian record champions Juventus Turin for possible violations of Financial Fair Play.
This emerges from documents published by UEFA. The club was informed by UEFA on September 18th that the procedure had been initiated, Juve said in a club statement.
The violations investigated relate to events between the 2022/23 and 2024/25 seasons. The result is expected in spring 2026 “and could lead to a possible financial penalty (though unlikely to be very large) as well as possible sporting restrictions (such as restrictions on the registration of new players for UEFA competitions)”the club wrote.
Exclusion from European Cup 2023
It would not be the first sanction of this kind for the Turin team: in July 2023, UEFA excluded the club from the European Cup for one season due to violations of club licensing and financial fair play regulations. In addition, Juve was fined 20 million euros, ten million of which were to be suspended if the annual financial statements for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 financial years meet the accounting requirements.
Juventus assured in its statement that the so-called squad cost ratio had been adhered to. This requirement, introduced by UEFA in 2022, states that a club is currently allowed to spend a maximum of 70 percent of its income on transfers and salaries.
In addition, according to UEFA regulations, the financial deficit cannot exceed 60 million euros. For clubs that are classified as “financially sound”, the limit can be extended to 90 million euros.
