Leon Goretzka’s future at FC Bayern is up for debate again. Fenerbahçe Istanbul is interested, but a move in the winter seems unlikely.
The poker for Leon Goretzka’s sporting future at FC Bayern is once again on. It is clear that the national player will have to make a groundbreaking decision in this regard in the coming months. The 30-year-old’s contract with the record champions ultimately expires after this season in June 2026.
But is everything going much faster now? The portal “Fotomac” reports that Goretzka should be at the top of Fenerbahçe Istanbul’s wish list. The top Turkish club, which is now coached by Goretzka’s former Schalke coach Dominico Tedesco, reportedly wants to bring in the national player in the winter. And according to the report, Bayern should at least be willing to talk.
It is unlikely and even almost impossible that Goretzka will leave Munich at the turn of the year. Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany has plans for the midfield star. And Goretzka also feels comfortable and important for the team under Kompany. Given their small squad, Bayern cannot actually afford to do without a player like Goretzka in the second half of the season.
From Goretzka’s point of view, who has only just established himself in the national team again, it would also not be wise to take a risk by changing clubs immediately before the World Cup.
What will happen next for Goretzka in the summer after the World Cup is, however, completely unclear. In recent years, Goretzka has had a difficult time at FC Bayern and was at times considered a candidate for sale. But he himself never specifically thought about saying goodbye to Munich and emphasized, even in difficult times under former coach Thomas Tuchel: “I love the club, I love the city, I love the fans. There are no thoughts of leaving the club.” According to t-online information, nothing has ever changed in this attitude at Goretzka.
With an estimated annual salary of 18 million euros, Goretzka is still one of the top earners at Bayern. In the event of a contract extension, Goretzka would probably have to accept significant salary losses. It remains to be seen whether he would be willing to do so and whether and under what conditions Bayern might be willing to extend his contract again. But it is also clear that FC Bayern is by no means the only option Goretzka has when deciding on his future.
