As a striker, Patrick Kluivert was a star and collected numerous titles. A commitment as a trainer ended less successfully for the ex-professional.
Patrick Kluivert is no longer the national coach of Indonesia. After the early exit from the World Cup qualification, the Indonesian association and the 49-year-old separated – “amicably”, as it was said in a statement on Thursday. The Dutchman only took over the position in January and signed a two-year contract.
Indonesia failed in the fourth Asian qualifying round on the way to the 2026 World Cup. In a group of three, the team lost to Saudi Arabia 1:3 and also lost to Iraq 0:1. This sealed the end of the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Kluivert, who won the Champions League as a professional with Ajax Amsterdam in 1995, commented on the end of his time as national coach on Instagram after the separation: “Even though I am deeply disappointed and sorry that we didn’t make it to the World Cup, I will always be proud of what we have built together.” He also spoke of an “unforgettable trip”.
A successor for Kluivert has not yet been determined.
