The total damage to those affected by the burst water pipe in Den Bosch runs into tons of damage and cleaning up the mess will take weeks. This is what Danny Weijters from damage repair company Polygon says, which is working hard on Thursday to clean up the damage in Demostheneslaan. Water rose up to a meter high in several basements of affected houses.

The misery after the water pipe burst in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday is far from over. Residents were still so impressed by the consequences on Thursday that they did not want to talk about the ‘misery’. Employees of the damage company are busy cleaning up the cellars and repairing the damage. “The current state of affairs is that all the water has been sucked out,” says Weijters.

“Earlier today someone from the insurance company came to inspect the damage,” he continues. “Now we can empty the garages. We do that for the garages of six houses and then a fellow damage repairer does another house.”

All in all, Weijters expects to have work on the street for a few weeks. “Because water damage is ugly,” he knows from experience. “A lot of things have to be done. Only when everything is empty can we start drying and then paint, for example. I find it difficult to estimate the damage, but it amounts to tons.”

Drinking water from the tap again
The burst water pipe has now been repaired. Drinking water is coming out of the tap again, says a spokesperson for Brabant Water. “Work continued all day yesterday. Initially to ensure that the water was gone and then the pipe was repaired. Work is now continuing to repair the street, the sidewalk and the driveway of the house where the break occurred.”

It is not known how the leak could have occurred.
