FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – The Frankfurt Higher Regional Court wants to confiscate around 720 million euros from the frozen assets of a Russian financial institution. At the request of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, a special procedure was opened for this purpose, as the Hessian judiciary reports.

According to a statement, the bank in Frankfurt was added to a European Union embargo list against Russia in June 2022. In response to the Ukraine attack, all of the company’s balances with European financial and credit institutions were frozen.

Money should be withdrawn

However, shortly after the listing, unknown people responsible at the bank allegedly tried to withdraw the funds. However, a corresponding electronic transfer order was not carried out.

The procedure now decided is intended to collect the money for the benefit of the state treasury. However, a date for the necessary main hearing has not yet been set. The 8th Criminal Senate of the Higher Regional Court is advised by five full-time judges./ceb/DP/jha
