New York Knicks guard Malcolm Brogdon has decided to retire from basketball after nine NBA seasons.
Brogdon, who played in only 24 games for the Washington Wizards last season, averaged 12.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists. According to the news on ESPN, the experienced player, who is expected to be in the Knicks’ pre-season squad, had been thinking about retirement for a while and informed the club officials about his decision on Wednesday.
32-year-old Brogdon said in his statement: “Today, I am officially starting the process of retiring from my basketball career. I have devoted my mind, body and soul to this game for years. I have made many sacrifices to get to this point, but I have also won many awards. Now it is time to reap the fruits of my career with my family and friends. I sincerely thank everyone who has been a part of my journey.” he said.
Brogdon, who was selected with the 36th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, was awarded the “Rookie of the Year” award with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2017 and the “Sixth Man of the Year” award with the Boston Celtics jersey in the 2022-23 season. He made history, along with Mike Miller, as one of only two players to win these two awards in his career.
Brogdon, who became the fourth best player in the league with a 43% three-point percentage between the 2022-24 seasons, reduced this statistic to 29% last season.
In his nine-season NBA career, Brogdon; While playing for the Wizards, Trail Blazers, Celtics, Pacers and Bucks, he averaged 29.1 minutes and averaged 15.3 points, 4.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds.
