It is clear: the Meilandjes do not have to count on a pleasant farewell drink at SBS 6 now that they are pulling the plug on Chateau Meiland. They are attacked again by a channel colleague…
Martien Meiland and his family are calling it quits: Chateau Meiland is coming to an end. Or will they be missed? They had many viewers, but they don’t seem to be very popular with their SBS 6 colleagues. For example, Johan Derksen has the entire family sawed off at the ankles in VI: “Every week they have a competition: who is the scariest of the bunch?”
‘Not nice people’
Now the Meilandjes have again received a channel colleague, namely Evert Santegoeds from Shownieuws. “They’re actually not very nice people,” he sneers in his podcast Strictly Private.
“The fact that you are also going to announce this to Boulevard… A little solidarity with the people you have made millionaires is something from the last century, I believe. That does not happen with the Meilandjes, solidarity.”
Everything is for Bassie
The Meilandjes are nasty types, Evert thinks. “They are not very nice. The Meilandjes never came to Hilversum to make friends there. No, no, you can just see that, right? All that clan, they keep everything within that family. What you used to have with Bassie, that now applies to the Meilandjes.”
Does his annoyance have to do with the fact that the Meilandjes are so lashing out at the media in their latest book? “If you start shooting at that, there really is nothing left of that chapter. They all mention headlines from tabloids that were never there.”
Meadow
The Meilandjes exit really has nothing to do with the tabloid press, according to Evert. “No, do you know what the reason is that it stops and that it has gained such momentum? That the Meilandje was in the meadow with that rape, and they were never able to piece it together. That has become much bigger than they had thought.”
He continues: “Since then, the atmosphere has completely gone. They can’t stand it. It is also discussed in the book that I would have allowed myself to be put to the advantage of the opposing party. Well, absolutely not, we simply let the other side have its say. That is very normal.”
Wickedly naive
Evert thinks the Meilandjes are naive. “It’s very naive. They shout it, they throw the stone into the pond and then they are surprised that large circles are formed in the water.”
How much did the TV family actually take for their reality series? “I understood that in the end they received one and a half million per season. Then you have done quite well. If you see how they once started in that terraced house in Noordwijk, they should be more grateful than they have been so far.”
