Jérôme Boateng has ended his active career and now wants to become a coach. The path to FC Bayern seems to be paved.
Former national player Jérôme Boateng is still thinking about a career as a coach. In an interview with “Bild” he once again spoke about a possible internship at FC Bayern and coach Vincent Kompany. “I’ve already spoken to him. I can sit in at Bayern and I’m really looking forward to that. We just have to find the right time,” said Boateng.
The idea came up a few weeks ago. When asked, Kompany said he would like to invite the former Munich professional to take part in training on Säbener Strasse. “Come to us for a few weeks? Share your experience as a top defender? Of course! I would always invite you, 100 percent. That’s very valuable,” said the Belgian.
Kompany and Boateng know each other well, they played together at Hamburger SV and later at Manchester City. “We have a shared past and are good friends,” he said. “I am extremely proud of him and happy with what he has achieved.”
Boateng was one of the best defenders in the world for years. In 2014 he became world champion with Germany. He was active at Bayern from 2011 to 2021 and during that time won, among other things, the Champions League twice and nine championship titles. He has been without a club since last August – a few days ago, the Berlin native announced the end of his career at the age of 37.
After acquiring the trainer B license at the end of 2024, he is now aiming for the A license and then to become a football teacher. Kompany believes his former teammate will have a successful coaching career. “Of course he can be a top coach if he wants to,” said Kompany. “It’s like playing football, you have to work hard. You can always become the best, but it takes time.”
