Four games, four wins. The newcomer from Trier is living a Bundesliga fairytale and creating a mega atmosphere in the home arena. After nine years, the Trier team is back on the first-class stage.

The Gladiators from Trier remain unbeaten in the fourth game of the Basketball Bundesliga. 5,292 spectators saw on Sunday, how the people of Moselstadt defeated the lions from Braunschweig with 78:73.

For the fans, every victory is an experience. “I never thought it would work out like this. It’s just great that we keep winning”enthuses a spectator who is watching the game live. The euphoria is particularly noticeable in the final seconds, when Braunschweig approaches again and the hall is already emptying itself. “I would almost have preferred to play in the second division to win games – the fact that things are continuing like this is of course really great.”adds an audience member.

The Trier team no longer have to play in the second division: After opening victories against top favorites like Bamberg Baskets and Alba Berlin, the Gladiators are picking up where they left off in the 2nd league and showing that the promoted team has arrived in the Bundesliga.

From fall to rise

Ten years ago, Trier basketball was on the verge of collapse: bankruptcy, points deduction, forced relegation. TBB Trier disappeared from the Bundesliga. What remained were the fans and a handful of people with an idea and passion for the sport. The Gladiators Trier were founded under a new name and new structures. The club fought its way back step by step – from a new beginning in the second ProA to promotion in 2025.

Today the restart has become a success story. Under coach Jacques Schneider, the team has found a clear identity. The team appears well-coordinated, shows team spirit and a close connection to the spectators. The fact that Trier is now exciting as a newcomer to the Bundesliga is no coincidence, but the result of years of development work.

Success with concept

Intense defense, a lot of commitment and a well-coordinated team – these are the characteristics with which Trier is currently surprising the league. Schneider relies on continuity instead of stars, on team spirit instead of individualism. Many players still know each other from the ProA, the processes are correct and there is a lot of trust.

Even before the game against Braunschweig, the spectators said clearly: “The team is the star.” And that’s exactly what you see on the field – cohesion, commitment and enthusiasm carry Trier through every game.

It’s not just their passion that convinces the people of Moselstadt, the statistics also speak for them: with an average of 43.5 rebounds per game, the Gladiators have the best score in the league, and with 355 points scored, they also have the second most successful offense.

Trier showed its strength against Braunschweig in particular in the third quarter: After the Moselstadt team were behind by 11 points in the first quarter, they turned the game around in an impressive comeback and from then on set the rhythm before things got briefly exciting again in the last quarter.

Trier delivers – with team spirit, speed and a clear style. The Gladiators are not a random success, but a promoted team that takes the league seriously. And who knows: after four wins from four games, some opponents in the Bundesliga might already have the Mosel on their radar again. It continues in the DBB Cup on Friday (October 17th) at 8:00 p.m. against Bonn.
