Kelly van der Veer, known from Big Brother, currently earns her money with Ferry Doedens-like practices. She has taken it easy in recent years in terms of media. Why? “Psychosis.”
She is considered an absolute D-star: 45-year-old Kelly van der Veer, who instantly became the most famous transsexual in our country through her participation in Big Brother. Nowadays she does all kinds of Ferry Doedens-like things for the webcam, because a career in showbiz never really got off the ground. She does occasionally appear in celebrity shows.
Kelly says no
Actually, that’s a recent thing, Kelly explains, because she’s been hiding for a long time. “My manager Hans calls me every week when another program has been announced to ask if I want to participate. I usually immediately say ‘no’. Things where I have to survive and where I can’t eat, that’s not for me.”
She continues in the Party: “From a medical point of view, it is simply not useful for my body in my situation. I am now 45 and have to take into account that my body works a little differently than others.”
Psychosis
Kelly has also developed a bit of TV anxiety. “I immediately drop out of things that just don’t make me feel good. I really enjoyed Real Girls and Big Brother, but things also went very wrong once…”
When then? “I took part in Hotel Big Brother with a group of celebrities. I walked away from there after nine days. I just got a psychosis in that program and I suffered from it for a really, really long time. I expected it to be just as fun as in our Big Brother. But I just sat there with a bunch of old people.”
Viola Holt
Who was Kelly in that house with? “Seniors like Gert Timmerman, Bonnie St. Claire and Viola Holt. Not to belittle them, but if you expect to end up in a nice group of people and then only people like that participate that you don’t even know… I was still quite young myself and then you come among those types…”
She continues, traumatized: “In the middle of the night I heard Gert Timmerman snoring, it was as if he was strangling someone, such a scary sound came out. That really hit me hard. I really should never have done that. In reality where things can go wrong, you have to be properly taken care of.”
Thirty people
Kelly was not picked up by anyone after Gert Timmerman’s snoring. “Nowadays that is the case, but I don’t feel the need to be in a program where you sit in a class with thirty people to test how smart everyone is.”
“Look, of course the benefits of being famous are all nice: the attention, the glitter, the glamour, the money, standing out and being crazy. But you have to make a little distinction.”
