The Ice Tigers give the champions a tough fight – but in the end they are again without any points. In Berlin, despite two goals, it wasn’t enough to equalize.

The Nuremberg Ice Tigers sold themselves dearly to the German champions on Sunday – but in the end they were left empty-handed again. Tom Rowe’s team narrowly lost 2-3 to the Eisbären Berlin, thus suffering their fourth defeat in the last five DEL games.

In front of 14,055 fans in the arena at Berlin’s Ostbahnhof, the Nuremberg team initially got off to a better start, but were unable to take advantage of their chances in the first third. Shortly after the break, Lean Bergmann gave the hosts the lead – his first goal of the season. National player Marcel Noebels and attacker Yannick Veilleux made their comeback after a long break, and Berlin took advantage of the momentum: Leo Pföderl made it 2-0 (34th).

Nuremberg couldn’t be shaken off: Constantin Braun, once a polar bear himself, shortened the score in the second third against his former club (36th). In the final period, Ty Ronning increased Berlin’s advantage before Tyler Spezia added tension again (53′). The Ice Tigers threw everything forward, but they were unable to equalize.

The Franconians are slipping further down the table. The next difficult task awaits on Wednesday away from the Adler Mannheim.
