Governor Carl Decaluwé already took the initiative to find a solution with the West Flemish police zones, but did not get all zones on the same page. Further discussions will now be held together with a number of police zones to create additional infrastructure and practical training at the West Flemish Police School in Zedelgem.

“Such practical training is very important, but is not included in the basic training,” says provincial councilor Kurt Himpe. “A number of police zones such as MIRA, Arro Ypres, Ostend and Gavers do or did rely on external partners for practical training.”

Further training at the RIHO police zone

“Since last year, the RIHO police zone has been focusing on priority driving with further training. In the meantime, 41 officers have already started this practical training,” says Himpe, who also asked questions about this as a police council member. “198 employees of the police zone, more specifically the intervention members, flex teams and members of the traffic service, followed the priority driving training and the criminal investigation department will now also receive this training,” Himpe explains based on the information.

Priority driving training is also provided for every new staff member who starts at the RIHO police zone
