The technician and the “colleague” coach: “No one corrects the technique anymore and the results are the ones you all see…”. “The problem is the parents”
Mister Capello and Mister Floris. No linguistic affectations, the former Milan, Real Madrid and England coach and the well-known host of the “Dimartedì” show are colleagues. Giovanni Floris obtained his UEFA B license in Coverciano and it is curious and pleasant to hear him reflect with one of the greatest coaches in Italian and European football. “A bench for two” is the title of the close encounter, at the Teatro Sociale, moderated by the deputy director of the Gazzetta Gianni Valenti. The incipit is yellow-red. Floris is a big Roma fan: “The tables at my wedding had the names of footballers: the bride and groom were at the Totti table, and there was also the Capello table.” The coach immediately gives advice to his colleague: “Start from the youth sector. Some players who started immediately with big teams, like Pirlo, were not ready. Do you know how to correct on a technical level? Create a staff, because no one corrects the technique anymore and the results are what you all see…”. Floris completes the reflection: “We played football in the street. Now they immediately want athletes. Football schools cost a thousand euros and it’s no longer football for everyone.” Capello adds: “The problem is the parents. As Zoff says, we need a cinema near the pitch where we can send them while we play…”.

There is understanding between the two coaches. Then the former Milan coach explains to his colleague how to build a team: “You have to understand who you have in hand, the plan comes later, the most important thing is to put the players where they perform best. Second point: the players you have signed, you have to be good at understanding if they are capable of playing with certain shirts… in this case it is important to have a sporting director who understands football, I had Braida, I trusted him, if he told me that a player was from Milan I told him I believed.” Then Capello goes freewheeling: “David in Juve? There are difficulties. For a foreigner, changing country and style of play is not easy.” Floris drags Don Fabio into the memories of the Giallorossi championship: “I haven’t seen anyone kick like Batistuta. He and Gigi Riva are the best. Who made me angrier? A random name… Cassano. In the last 25 meters he was better than Totti. But then when you criticized his behaviour, he apologized and after 5 minutes we were all over again.”
