TOreally a good one mental health it doesn’t just mean avoiding anxiety or stress: it means feeling balanced, clear, present. Like the body, the mind also needs training, care and consistency. On the occasion of World Mental Health Daywhich is celebrated on October 10, here are seven habits suggested by National Health Service British people who can help make a difference.

1. Change perspective
Thoughts, emotions and behaviors are closely connected. Learning to recognize negative thoughts and reformulating them in a more constructive way is a first step to lightening the mind and finding inner calm.

2. Live in the present
Truly being in the here and now – observing what surrounds us, listening to our sensations, breathing with awareness – helps to slow down and restore value to every moment. It is the heart of mindfulness, a simple but very powerful practice.

3. Sleep well
Quality sleep is the best ally of well-being. It recharges the mind, regulates mood and prepares us to face the day with more energy and clarity.

4. Cultivate relationships
A sincere chat, a kind message, a helping gesture. Connecting with others – in person or remotely – makes us feel part of something, breaks loneliness and strengthens our emotional network.

5. Live healthily
Move, be outdoors, eat fresh and colorful food. They are choices that nourish body and mind. Reducing smoking, alcohol and caffeine can also improve mood and inner balance.

6. Give yourself time
Giving yourself a moment for yourself is not a luxury, but a necessity. Whether reading, cooking, painting or simply doing nothing and listening to your needs is the best way to regain energy.

7. Write to your future “self”.
When you feel good, writing a letter to yourself can become a precious gift. Remembering what makes us feel good today will be an anchor in the most difficult moments tomorrow.

The Mental wellbeing is a journeynot a destination. Starting today, with a kinder thought or an extra break, can be the most powerful gesture to regain balance and well-being.
