The approval of the law that limits Javier Milei’s DNU (140 votes in favor, 80 against, 7 abstentions) unleashed an official attack against four former libertarians: Lourdes Arrieta, Carlos D’Alessandro, Gerardo González and Marcela Pagano. With a mandate until 2027, they have formed the “Coherencia” bloc since August and are accused of treason by La Libertad Avanza. The tweeter “Pregonero” (@PregoneroL) published a photo of the four: “the 4 liberal votes to carry out the coup d’état”, a post that added thousands of interactions and unleashed a “witch hunt” on networks.
They entered in 2023 with La Libertad Avanza, but broke up due to friction with Martín Menem and Karina Milei. Arrieta, from Mendoza, left after the visit of libertarians to repressors in Ezeiza. Pagano, a journalist and friend of Milei, denounced Menem’s “authoritarianism” and questioned the bribes at Andis. D’Alessandro, from Puntano, clashed with the LLA intervention in San Luis; González, from Formosa, faces accusations of “gildismo.” In August they formed “Coherencia” to act with “responsibility.”
On October 9, Arrieta and Pagano gave a quorum with UCR, Encuentro Federal and Izquierda, voting in favor of limiting DNU to 90 days. D’Alessandro and González supported the project, but rejected article 3, avoiding the absolute majority (127 votes) and returning the text to the Senate, which favors the presidential veto. “The DNU are exhausted,” said Pagano, aligned with Pichetto.
After the session, which approved raids on Espert for Narcogate, LLA trolls launched the hashtag #TraidoresLibertarios and threats. “Coherencia” denounces a purge: “They call us left-handed for defending Congress,” they say. Arrieta tweeted: “Coherence is not betrayal.” The Government, hit by the Espert case, uses the “hunt” to divert attention, but loses key allies. Your votes are crucial in an election year.
The offensive against “Coherencia” includes accusations from Karina Milei. The four deny the accusations and warn that the ruling party seeks to discipline dissidents before the midterm elections. Meanwhile, Unión por la Patria and the UCR negotiate with “Coherencia” for future projects, such as the monotax reform, strengthening their role in a divided Congress.
