Fenerbahçe’s Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson could not play in the Super League match against Samsunspor due to the injury he suffered in training. It was announced that the experienced glove, who was detected to be bleeding in the back island during the checks, would be away from the fields for approximately two weeks.

This injury affected not only Fenerbahçe but also the Brazilian National Team. Coach Carlo Ancelotti included Nottingham Forest goalkeeper John Victor in the squad instead of Ederson before the friendly matches against South Korea and Japan.

“I THOUGHT I WAS SCAMMED”

29-year-old John Victor, who was called up to the Brazilian National Team for the first time in his career, told ESPN about his surprise when he received the news: “It was a unique and wonderful feeling for me. I was going to the match, I was on the bus. Suddenly I received a message from Sergio Dimas (National Team General Manager). I thought it was a joke. I didn’t have his number. When I asked for my passport, I said, ‘Could this be a scam?’ I thought.”

“I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE IT”

Victor stated that it was a great pride for him to be selected for the national team and continued: “I haven’t fully grasped it yet. Since I came here, I thought about my past experiences, the ups and downs of my career, my days in Botafogo. I am very happy to be here. I am grateful to God.”

WHO IS JOHN VICTOR?

Born in Diadema (São Paulo) in 1996, John Victor started playing football in the Santos infrastructure. He then played for Portuguesa and Internacional. Victor, who went to Real Valladolid on loan in 2023, was transferred to Botafogo for 1.3 million euros in January 2025.

The goalkeeper, who attracted the attention of European clubs with his successful performance here, signed for Nottingham Forest with a transfer fee of 8 million euros during the summer transfer period. His name was also associated with Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe for a while.
