The number of millionaires has been on the rise in recent years, according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The richest are also gaining ground in Brabant. The best-filled piggy banks can be found in the municipality of Alphen-Chaam, where 13 percent of the residents are millionaires.

The legendary band ABBA already sang it: Money, money, money. And that kite certainly applies in the richest municipalities of Brabant. In addition to Alphen-Chaam, the most households with a Dagobert Duck-like wealth can be found in Vught (12.9 percent), Waalre (12.9 percent) and Oirschot (12.2 percent).

But in Oisterwijk, Zundert, Baarle-Nassau, Reusel-De Mierden and Eersel there is also a greater chance than the national average (6.6 percent of the population) that you will meet a millionaire. Other municipalities with relatively many millionaires are Boekel, Son en Breugel and Heeze, to name just a few.

CBS also looks at where the wealth of the wealthy comes from. According to the agency, most wealth comes from retirement (about 37 percent), followed by income from self-employment (34 percent) and wages (27.4 percent).

The municipality of Tilburg has the least amount of money splashing around: with only 2.8 percent of households, the city has proportionately the fewest millionaires.
