The Bremerhaven team won their home game in the Champions League against Lulea HF on Tuesday evening. The Penguins ended up winning 2-0.
Winger Bennet Roßmy scored the first goal for the Penguins in the 23rd minute of the game. Penguins veteran Jan Urbas made it 2-0 in the 54th minute. In the end, the two goals were enough to win against Lulea. This means that Bremerhaven’s hope of progressing in the Champions League lives on. They are now in 15th place in the table. The first 16 of 24 teams reach the round of 16.
Before the game against the Swedish champions, the Penguins’ Champions League season wasn’t going particularly well. Although they managed to win on the first match day against the ZSC Lions (3:2 after extra time), the Bremerhaven team subsequently suffered defeats against EC Salzburg (2:3) and against Grenoble (5:8). Before the game against Lulea, the second win in the group (3:2 after a penalty shootout) was celebrated against Lukko Rauma from Finland.
The Penguins will play their last group game on October 14th at 7 p.m. in Norway against Storhamar Ishockey. In the DEL, the Bremerhaven team will next be challenged in the top game against Adler Mannheim, the league leaders, on Friday evening (7:30 p.m.) in the ice arena.
