Sign on Messi decision? Jordi Alba also ends career

Had contract until 2027

After Sergio Busquets, the next player of Inter Miami and long -time teammate from Lionel Messi will end his career at the turn of the year. Jordi Alba announced his decision on Tuesday on his social media channels. He had only extended his contract in Florida until 2027 in May.

“The time has come to close a really important chapter of my life. I decided to end my active career as a football professional at the end of this season. I do this with inner peace and joy because I have the feeling that I have enjoyed my career with a lot of passion every second. Now it is time to open up a new chapter,” he said in a video.

Alba moved to Miami along the summer of 2023 alongside Messi and Busquets. While the Spaniard announced his end of his career a week and a half ago, the decision of the Argentine, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is still pending. It is unclear whether the surprising career end of Alba, which was actually bound to the MLS club until 2027, is related to Messi’s choice.

The three former Barcelona professionals have been traveling together almost without interruption since 2012. Only while Messi’s two-year stay at Paris Saint-Germain between 2021 and 2023 has the trio not been under contract with the same club since then. Alba played 568 games together with Busquets, with Messi 413.
