The qualification for the Grand Prix of Singapore becomes a nervous duel between several star drivers. In the end, the Brit prevails – in front of the world champion.
Crime in qualifying on Marina Bay Street Circuit: Mercedes pilot George Russell secured the pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix-and that in a highly spanning third section of the qualification, in which several drivers still had chances for first place. In the end, the 27-year-old drove a new best time in 1: 29.158 minutes. It is the seventh pole position for Russell in its Formula 1 career and the second this year.
For Lando Norris (England/McLaren), qualifying was disappointing. The World Cup second did not get past fifth place, so it has to take a catch-up hunting in the 18th season race on Sunday. Kimi Antonelli (Italy) also landed in the second Mercedes in front of him. Record world champion Lewis Hamilton and his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc (Monaco) drove to places six and seven.
Nico Hülkenberg temporarily performed strongly, but the only German in the driver field then narrowly left in the second section and starts on Sunday from eleven. In front of it, Isack Hadjar (France/Racing Bulls), Oliver Bearman (England/Haas) and old master Fernando Alonso (Spain/Aston Martin) placed themselves.
