The hockey players of Den Bosch played a draw on Sunday afternoon against leader SCHC (2-2). After a red card for captain Pien Sanders and a penalty ball in the final phase, the profit for the reigning national champion fell into the water.
SCHC started the game strongly and managed to take the lead after twelve minutes. The Bossche ladies needed the time to get going, but Frédérique Matla succeeded in the first penalty corner to push the equalizer.
After the break, Den Bosch seemed to have really woken up, which led to the 1-2. Babs Reijnen gave the ladies the lead. For a moment the win was in sight for the team, but that changed when Pien Sanders was sent off the field ten minutes before time. The captain threw her face mask against a referee after a penalty corner and therefore received her second yellow card.
Penalty ball
The team from Bilthoven grabbed her chance and put hard on. In the final phase, Anna de Goes of SCHC down in the circle of Den Bosch. A penalty ball was given for the violation, from which the equalizer followed.
Rare red card
Pien Sanders indicated that he would rather not have a red card in her name after the game. “I am also ashamed of it. I disadvantage my team, because because of my cards they play with ten people for more than fifteen minutes,” she told the NOS.
Since a year you will automatically receive a yellow card at Veldsport if you throw your mask away and you touch someone. “After a penalty corner, the game will continue right away. I then take my things off and throw it back. I don’t even look around and get the referee super per wrong,” Sanders explains.
Despite the draw, the captain is satisfied and proud of the team. “It may feel a bit like a loss for us, because we were 1-2 ahead until the end. But we showed good play.”
Changeable start
After five games, Den Bosch is in sixth place in the competition. That is new for the 23-time national champion, which has already lost twice this season. Last summer the team from Den Bosch wrote history. The women managed to get the national title, the cup and the Euro Hockey League in one season.
Party in Tilburg
The weekend was a success for the hockey ladies from Tilburg. The team provided a big surprise during the away match against Amsterdam. The ladies won 2-3.
