Football for the 2026 World Cup is given the name Trionda
09.08 hours: The new football that will be used at the world championship next year is given the name Trionda. FIFA reports that.
The ball, designed in the colors red, green and blue, is intended as a tribute to the United States, Mexico and Canada. For the first time a final tournament is being played in three countries. Trionda means ‘three waves’ in Spanish.
According to FIFA, there are several important innovations. A construction with extra deep seams creates a surface that distributes the air resistance evenly. “Relief symbols, which are only visible up close, also ensure a better grip when shooting or dribbling in wet or humid conditions.”
The ball is equipped with a motion sensor that accurately records every movement. The technology sends that data to the video referees, to support the referees.
“I can’t wait to see this beautiful ball go into the net,” said FIFA chairman Gianni Infantino.
