The Edmonton Oilers announced on Friday to continue working with trainer Kris Knoblauch in the future. This led the franchise to the Stanley Cup final twice in a row.
The 47-year-old was equipped with a new three-year contract that retains it in Edmonton up to and including the 2028/29 season. In November 2023, after a start of the season, he took over the team around Leon Draisaitl with just three victories from Jay Woodcroft’s first 13 games.
What followed afterwards is a true success story. Knoblauch won 94 of his 151 regular season games so far. Just two months after taking office, he became the first coach of NHL history, which was able to show two winning people of at least eight games in the first 25 games of his coaching career.
In addition, under his aegis, with 16 successes in a series, the Oilers put the second longest winning streak of the history of league. They share this with the Columbus Blue Jackets (season 2016/17). So far, despite two final participation, the Stanley Cup has not been enough, but the franchise with Draisaitl and Superstar Connor McDavid is once again with ambitions into the new season.
Knoblauch completes the last Preseason game against the Vancouver Canucks on the night of Saturday (4 a.m.). The regular season starts for the Oilers on Thursday (4 a.m.) with a home game against the Calgary Flames.
