Alba Berlin lost his first game of the season in the basketball Bundesliga (92:97). The Berliners initially appeared very dominant against promoted Trier, but then gradually broke in and awarded the start-finish victory in the last few minutes.

Alba Berlin started the new season of the Basketball Bundesliga with a 92: 97 defeat. At home against promoted Gladiators Trier, the Albatrosse initially delivered an offensive fireworks, but then became more and more insecure. In the end, Trier demonstrated and rewarded himself with the sensation.

Basketball: The Alba men before the season opener

Berlin Basketballer from Alba Berlin starts the new season on Friday. There is a squad and a new concept: Alba no longer plays in the Euroleague, but only in the third -class Champions League. By Jakob Rügermore

Since Alba Berlin still had no play on match day 1, the Berliners started the season late. Alba newcomer Boogie Ellis started directly with two three and opened the fast-paced first minutes of the game. Trier also went on safe and quick degrees, followed when Alba attacked with a lot of movement in the game structure and initially stayed tuned. But the Berlin offensive shone with a lot of overview and sank one after the other. Trier coach Jaques Schneider took the first break for the hosts in the arena at the Ostbahnhof at the end of 20: 9.

But many throws still not fell at the climber, but at least the rebound game seemed improved. The big problem remained from the point of view of the guests: the Berlin quota from the outside was incredibly strong and Trier was not accessed. Justin Bean and Sam Griesel joined the three shooters and shortly before the end of the quarter, both teams showed what speed game means. Nevio Bennefeld’s own plant then ended the quarter – of course with a threesome. The Alba offensive ran like lubricated.

Alba completely changed

Bennefeld then received the trust of coach Pedro Calles, who changed once for the 2nd quarter. The 18-year-old immediately paid it back from the zone and two defensive rebounds. Overall, one difference to the 1st quarter quickly became clear: the throwing rate went down. Alba had completely lost his game flow and only scored after almost five minutes with a single free throw point for 26:29. The spectators in the arena had a completely changed sight than in the first half hour.

Curious incident: The soft attachment of the drum floor of a fan in the meantime got lost onto the parquet and caused a short interruption.

The guests were now in the game because Alba left them. But slowly the game picked up a bit of speed again. Jack Kayil for the Berlin and Nolan Adekunle for Trier sank their threes and gave the game swing. After the creepy first five minutes of the 2nd quarter, another entertaining game was created. And the Berlin game changed: away from the threesome towards simple points. With a nine-point lead for the Albatrosse (52:43) we went into the break.

The Lucky Punch is missing

Where was the carefree that the Alba game had shaped at the beginning of the game? The enormous high scoring was history, Trier had stabilized. The second half then started at least anything but calm. On both sides, it was thrown out of all positions. Norris Agbakoko, but also Eli Brooks and Urald King, everyone met from Downtown. The guests seemed liberated, especially King took responsibility and exuded courage.

Alba tried hard and tried to arrive against the combative guests. In the meantime, the focus was on playmaker Martin Hermannsson, who not only delivered important goals from the free -wing line, but above all radiated self -confidence and drove his team ahead. With a lot of energy, Boogie Elli’s dynamic also brought into the Berlin game, which was characterized by speed and fast points in this phase. But the game came on the spot. Trier couldn’t get closer, Alba couldn’t get any further away. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter: 75:68.

Trier with Demonstration of power

In the 4th quarter, too, it was initially noticed that many opportunities were left out. Alba had to be careful now, because the promoted team had not yet given up and the lead shrank. Coach Pedro Calles quickly took the time out and hoped to restore the rhythm with his team. But it was not possible: because Griesel missed a throw from the half -distance, Trier came from the transition about Behnam Yakhchali to the next three. The game was turned (81:84).

And the guests continued to do it. With fast balls and clever game they forced the Berliners to foul, their own defensive was strong. Alba was completely off the role and found no solution against the increasingly secure Trier. At 92:97 the game was whistled: for Trier the second victory of the season, a huge disappointment for Alba. The next game for Alba is already on Sunday (4:30 p.m.), then the Albatrosses are challenged at the other promoted science City Jena.
