Jane Goodall died on the evening of October 1, 2025 at the age of 91. The chimpanzee researcher was most recently on a lecture trip in California, as the “Jane Goodall Institute” announced. Leonardo DiCaprio, as he calls her himself, devoted an “close girlfriend” to an emotional Instagram post.

Leonardo DiCaprio about Jane Goodall: “True heroine for the planet”
On Wednesday evening, the actor shared his thoughts on the death of the animal rights activist with his almost 60 million followers: inside. He called the environmental activist a “true heroine for the planet”, an “inspiration for millions” and his “close girlfriend”.
Leonardo DiCaprio emphasized her “groundbreaking research on chimpanzees in Tanzania”, which would have “fundamentally changed” the understanding of people for life and dealing with their closest relatives. He added to the Instagram post that Goodall’s work led to people reminding the “deep connection with everything”.
DiCaprio asks Follower to keep her legacy alive
At the end of his Instagram post, DiCaprio asked his fans to keep Goodall’s legacy by supporting the Jane Goodell Institute or even clubs that were close to her heart. The Oscar winner ended the contribution with a warning: “Now we all have to carry their torch on to save our only home.”

Jane Goodall’s struggle for environmental and animal protection
The animal welfare and environmental activist traveled to today’s Tanzania for the first time at the age of 26. There she ventured into the world of wild chimpanzees, which was still little known until then.
