A member of the supervisory board names St. Pauli captain Irvine a “footnote”. Now his wife raises severe bullying allegations against the club-which reacts.
At FC St. Pauli there is trouble between the club management and captain Jackson Irvine. Supervisory Board member René Born insulted the Australian on Instagram and presented it as a mercenary. Irvine’s wife Jemilla Pir now accuses Born in a video bullying.
Born commented twice under an Instagram picture of the couple at the beginning of September. First he wrote: “Nobody is bigger than the club.” Later he followed: “This is our club, not yours. You will be gone in a few months and play somewhere else for one euro. We will always be here if you are nothing more than one footnote.” Born deleted the comments later, but Pir had made screenshots.
On Tuesday, Pir released a video in which she sharply criticized Born. “I just wanted to tell that because bullies have to be confronted. Especially those like René Born who have a position of power and believe that they could intimidate you publicly and give you the feeling that you could drive you out of your home,” she said. The association reacted with a statement: Born’s statements had already been distanced internally before the video was published, and this was also communicated to the couple.
Nevertheless, the video went online. St. Pauli then appealed in a statement to everyone involved: “We actively appeal to behave in the sense of a respectful and constructive coexistence and in the interest of the entire FC St. Pauli. Sludge battles on social media do not help – they do all harm to everyone.” It is unclear whether Born will face consequences. The supervisory board is elected by the members, other bodies cannot intervene directly.
