Nice Silvia Gusta, I summarize a little how you started with your activity
Actually, I started the profession since they conceived me: granddaughter and daughter of teachers and heiress of an educational institution to which our founder, Horacio Watson, in 1911 baptized “English Higher Grade School”.
Mr. Watson emigrated to Argentina from his native England leaving his family there and medical studies that would begin at the University of London. The peculiarity of our founder was that, far from isolation in the British community, he integrated Argentine teachers and families, becoming the first bilingual schools in our country. He learned our language and wrote textbooks in English and Spanish to use in the classroom.
After his death, my mother: Inés Watson, gave him his current name: “Horacio Watson School. ” Together with my father, Luciano Segat, they led the school to retire.
The implicit message of my legacy was: “And you will be a teacher.” To this day I reaffirm my profession; I enjoy my work with groups of boys and adolescents in a friendly and creative climate. And that’s how the mandate became passion.
What levels do they cover?
For almost 115 years we provide bilingual education (Spanish-English), and secular at the three levels: initial, primary and secondary.
What differentiates Horacio Watson school?
Our long history and prestige, and without a doubt, our staff: the human quality of managers and teachers is maintained over time, which is reflected in a warm and relaxed climate, of creative work. It is worth highlighting the role of our families in the accompaniment of school management.
There were three generations that made history and, since 2020, one of my children – Julián Massa – serves as vice -director general; so we constitute four generations in The art of educating.
What projects do with the institution?
Both my children and those who work at the Watson School feel projected Towards the future, adapting to the times we live, always preserving the spirit of my grandfather, Horacio Watson, and the values that we incarnate until today: the culture of effort and study and ethical behavior, among others.
If you had the possibility of starting again … would you go the same path?
He would respect the same essence without hesitation and the same principles that inspired our founder. In any case, it would redesign a building project especially destined to provide educational services.
