Football fan dies after KSC game

The second division game between Karlsruhe and Magdeburg was overshadowed by a tragic accident. A man died after the game.

Second division club Karlsruher SC mourns the loss of a football fan who died after the home game against 1. FC Magdeburg (1-0) last Saturday.

As the Badeners announced on Tuesday evening, the 59 -year -old man had fallen without external influence on the grounds of the game park stadium after the end of the game. Rescue workers had taken him to a hospital. As the police said, the man was under the influence of alcohol.

Three days after the accident, the fan had now died of his serious head injuries, the former Bundesliga club said.

The association expressed its sympathy: “The KSC expresses its condolences. The thoughts are with the family and the relatives of the deceased.”

It wasn’t the only accident on the past football weekend. Also on Saturday, a supporter of Bundesliga club 1. FC Heidenheim in the final phase of the game against FC Augsburg (2-1) fell from a fence several meters and suffered serious injuries. According to eyewitnesses, he came up with his head and was passed out for several minutes.

“It looks as if a fan has fallen from the fence and he is currently fighting for his life,” FCH coach Frank Schmidt said in an interview with SWR Sport after the game.

The fan was stabilized on site and then flown to a clinic by helicopter that had landed on the field. Nothing is known about his current state of health.
