His father ran 52 times for the German national team. Karlo Kuranyi, on the other hand, bears the jersey of another nation. For whom Papa Kevin could have played.

The U20 World Cup in Chile has been running since Saturday and until October 19. The German national team is not there. But: The son of a former DFB striker is part of the party in South America. Karlo Kuranyi, the son of Kevin Kuranyi, is there with Panama.

Karlo was born in Stuttgart and plays for the South Regional League SGV Freiberg. The 20-year-old spent his entire football life in Germany, among other things, the youth departments of the Stuttgart Kickers and VfB went through, where his father was also trained.

Now Karlo accepted the invitation of the Panamaic Football Association, in June it was for the first time for the junior team of the Central Americans on the pitch. But why Panama of all people? Background: The mother of Kevin Kuranyi, Karlos Grandma, comes from there. So Karlo owns Panamaic Citizenship.

The family is multicultural anyway. Father Kevin was born in Rio de Janeiro. He could have competed for Brazil, Panama or Germany. The 43-year-old today chose the DFB team. He scored 19 times in 52 international matches. Karlos Mother comes from Croatia. Kevin’s father is German with Hungarian roots.

Like Papa Kevin, Karlo striker is also. With Freiberg, after nine victories, he is in the first ten season games with a big lead in the regional league Südwest. For him personally, however, things are not going well. He stayed without a hit in six missions.

At the U20 World Cup, he came as a Joker in the second group game against Ukraine for 15 minutes. He has the next chance on Friday in the final group game against South Korea.
