Bad Bunny writes history: His Super Bowl half-time show set 2026 will only take place in Spanish. A novelty in the history of the show.
Bad Bunny remains true to his language
Since its breakthrough in 2016, the Puertorican superstar has repeatedly shifted borders – without deviating from his mother tongue. With seven studio albums, all without English -language songs, he proves that international success does not depend on adaptation to the mainstream. Even his hit “Where She goes” from 2023 was mostly in Spanish.
At the Super Bowl LX, he is now the first artist with a purely Spanish -speaking set. While stars such as Gloria Estefan, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez previously dominated the stage as Latina, Bad Bunny is the first to consistently do without English.
Political dimension of his appearance
“Ve y dile a tu Abuela, que Seremos el Halftime Show del Super Bowl,” he wrote after the announcement – “Say your grandma that we will do the half -time show.” His appearance will show millions of viewers that Spanish has long been part of the US cultural reality. 22 percent of the population now speak a language different at home than English, 61 percent of them Spanish.
At the same time, this happens at a time when the Latin American community is under pressure through mass portations and anti-immigrant rhetoric. The fact that Bad Bunny now shapes the largest entertainment spectacle in the USA with Spanish-language music is a conscious statement.
More than music: a cultural spectacle
The singer recently waived a US tour out of worry about ICE controls at concerts. Instead, he now gives the Super Bowl a unique “only concert” in the United States. In an interview with Apple Music, he emphasized that he sees the appearance as a celebration of the Puerto-Rican and Caribbean culture: “I am excited for my friends, my family, Puerto Rico, all Latinos in the world. I am excited about my culture-not only for me.”
