Central defender Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund will be nominated for the German national team again in October after surviving meniscus tear. According to “Sky”, national coach Julian Nagelsmann on the sidelines of the premiere of a documentary about the life of DFB sports director Rudi Völler. The 25-year-old “will definitely be there and deserves it,” said Nagelsmann.
So far, Schlotterbeck has played 20 caps, the last in the successful National League quarter-finals against Italy in March (2: 1/3: 3). At the beginning of April, he suffered his knee injury and subsequently failed for around five months. In the 1-0 of the BVB against Wolfsburg on the fourth Bundesliga matchday, the defender gave his comeback.
“He gives us an outstanding game structure, a great will to win and finally a left foot back,” said Nagelsmann about Schlotterbeck. In the DFB defensive, there had recently been major problems when starting the World Cup qualification. The nominal defense chief Antonio Rüdiger (32, Real Madrid) also fails with a thigh injury until December.
Nagelsmann continued about Schlotterbeck: “In his last international match against Italy, he was the best man on the pitch and can now be again. We are very happy that he is back.” With a market value of 40 million euros, the Dortmund is also the highest German defense lawyer.
