German Chancellor: ‘Europe no longer in peace with Russia’
“Let me say in a sentence that at first glance might be a bit shocking: we are not at war, but we also no longer live in peace,” said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Monday during a press conference in Düsseldorf.
The Russian war is “a war against our democracy and a war against our freedom,” said Merz. He states that Moscow is planning to undermine the unity within the block.
He also referred to his recent support to an EU plan to release frozen Russian credits to finance the war efforts of Ukraine. He said that this step could offer Ukraine military support for three to five years. Merz said that within that period it could become economically untenable for Russia to continue the war against Ukraine.
