The tunnel consists of eight large concrete parts. A part weighs around 60,000 tons. The pieces are then transported via tugboats and a push boat. The moment the pieces are in Antwerp, the sinking operation starts to get the pieces in the right place. With contractor TM Cotu, proudly rules: “Eight times such an operation is a real achievement.”
The works have started in Zeebrugge since 2021. A special construction dock was even laid out. Now that site can be cleaned up again.
