Fortuna Sittard made the FC Twente difficult in the first half, but John van den Brom’s team took a lead in the 36th minute. To the horror of Fortuna coach Danny Buijs, arbitrator Danny Makkelie whistled for a penalty because Ricky van Wolfswinkel went to the ground.

The 36-year-old striker was grabbed light by his shirt, but Makkelie did not hesitate for a moment and put the ball on the dot. The VAR decided not to interfere with the frustration of Buijs. After Van Wolfswinkel himself had scored flawlessly, Buijs received another yellow card because he applauded cynically for the decision of the arbitrator.

There was nothing to say about the second goal anyway. After a nice pass by Ramiz Zerrouki, Daan Rock Right back Bart van Rooij operated. Just like last week visiting Sparta (5-1 win FC Twente), Van Rooij completed.

With that goal in the 57th minute it seemed more or less decided in Enschede, but that turned out not to be the case. In the 71st minute, there was little man from the Tukkers when Justin Lonwijk headed the connection goal in it.

To the relief of the Grolsch Veste, the margin was lifted to two again more than minutes later. Substitute Thomas van den Belt Schoof dominated. Luka Tunjic still took care of the 3-2, but it came too late. After end, Buijs had to pull several angry players from Fortuna at the arbitration.
