Rehabilitation center Boshof in Assen will receive another 155 Ukrainians from 1 January. This completely fills the former care complex with Ukrainian refugees. Because on 1 April a group of Ukrainian families with children already came to live in the twenty sheltered homes of the building. There were first status holders.
The municipality of Assen informed local residents yesterday in a letter about the arrival of the new neighbors. For the neighborhood there is an information evening in De Bonte Wever on Tuesday.
Earlier this year there was a lot of chagrin about the arrival of the first group of Ukrainians to the Boshof. Some local residents felt overwhelmed, especially after they heard earlier that the AZC on the Schepersmaat, where there are 1,000 asylum seekers, would be extended for another fifteen years.
But at the time, the municipality also immediately indicated that it was in conversation with owner Icare, about renting the entire building for refugee shelters. In the meantime there is an agreement with Icare on temporary renting of the entire Boshof. After a small renovation, the municipality will move Ukrainian refugees to Beilerstraat from January. They come from another reception location on the Eemland.
In the first instance, it concerns 155 reception places. But according to the municipality, this number can still grow, “depending on our possibilities at other reception locations.” The lease agreement for the Boshof is in any case concluded at least for a year.
Whether there will be a follow -up still depends on the future plans that Icare has for the location of the Boshof. This is because there will be a new residential care location for the elderly. Icare is currently working on the development of the plans for this.
Assen currently catches around 800 Ukrainian refugees, spread over five locations. This is the former Univé office on Jan Bommerstraat, office buildings on the Lauwers, Industrieweg and Oosersingel, and now the nursing home on Beilerstraat.
