According to the inhabitants of the village center, trucks in particular must disappear. Luc Depuydt suggests: “Those heavy vans should leave Brielen and drive to the coast via Poperinge and Steenvoorde.” Geert Degraeve also sees alternatives: “They don’t have to lay new jobs. There are enough routes via Poperinge, the Diksmuidse road or Langemark-Poelkapelle. There is nothing here anymore, we no longer have a baker or butcher.”
Other residents think of speed limitations or one -way traffic. “This way we get more room for cyclists,” says Kurt Vangheluwe.
