‘Searching for photos was painful’
“It’s today September 23, that is of course my father’s death,” Dré opens his video message “I often get messages from people asking why I don’t post anything anymore on his birthday or this day. Some people find that crazy, a little anti -social or blame me.”
In the early years of social media, Hazes Trouw shared visual material at important moments. But, he explains, the online searching for photos began to stand against him: “Suddenly I realized that I thought it was very painful and a bit strange. I have no memory of my childhood.”
“For example, I have no images here in the house, no videos, no photos … just nothing of my childhood my father stands on,” said Hazes from his living room where a large, framed photo of father and son can be seen in the background. “That is with someone else, but I don’t want to elaborate on that at all.”

‘Weird and annoying’
Hazes continues: “At a certain point I thought it was just too painful and also weird and annoying. The fact that I have to put a picture of a press photographer like Edwin Smulders or someone else on my Insta because I had nothing to do, made me think:” I’m just going to ignore this. “
According to Hazes, this does not mean that one day like this he does not stand still with his father: “That is also the reason that I am released a new song today, as my kind of tribute to him.”
