Dow Jones-Merck and Siemens want to deepen their strategic partnership for AI-based active ingredients. The two DAX companies signed a declaration of intent to develop digital workflows from finding the active ingredient to the production of medication, as the Merck KGAA announced. The focus is therefore on the development of integrated software solutions based on automation, data and artificial intelligence (AI). The aim is to network and thus accelerate research, development and manufacture of new active ingredients. The partnership marks the first use of the technology that Siemens acquired as part of the Dotmatics takeover in July 2025.

“Every few years, the costs for the development of a new medication double,” said Cedrik Neike, Siemens board member and CEO from Siemens Digital Industries. “Data, AI and Digitization are crucial to break through this paradigm. ”

Building on this pilot project, Siemens and Merck are planning further joint projects and striving for even closer integration in the long term, such as intelligent data management tools and user-friendly interfaces that make scientists easier to use complex methods.
