Where he normally shines at square parties and in brown pubs, the Nuenense king of folk music Django Wagner is on a much larger stage on Monday evening. His hits like Kali and beautiful blue eyes then echo for the first time through Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam. A great honor for the singer: “We’re going to make a big party.”
There are no nodding knees. Django Wagner is eager to storm the Carré stage on Monday evening. The king of the life song from Nuenen sees his ultimate dream come true. “It is of course a wonderful theater where I can stand tonight. A Brabant boy who can just perform in Carré, that makes it extra special,” he says in the TV program Brabant today.
With his performance in the theater, Wagner follows in the footsteps of greats such as Karin Bloemen, Toon Hermans and even Josephine Baker. And he realizes that all too well. “I think this is the most beautiful, most iconic theater in the Netherlands,” he says proudly. “It is super fun, the stage is beautifully decorated and there is even a miniature living room.”

Culture
With his show, Wagner also hopes to honor his ancestors. “I hope to show my culture a bit,” he says. “My mother and grandparents were born here and that makes it special that I can stand here.”
That is why he also brings a number of songs to Sinti, a language spoken in traveler culture. “The show is called Rootsso then I have to let them hear, “he laughs.
Of course the famous hits are not missing. In addition to a lesson in Sinti culture, Carré also sounds the most songs from Wagner’s own repertoire. “I am there with the Rosenberg Trio, so it will be great in one word.”
Now that Wagner has conquered the most iconic theater in the Netherlands with his gypsylanken and life songs, the question arises as to what his next dot will be on the horizon. The Philips Stadium? Or the Ziggo Dome? “Well, when we talk about theaters, then perhaps the Park Theater in Eindhoven.”
