The new season in alpine skiing starts in Sölden in one month. This is irrelevant for Teresa Grüner because she ended her career.

The new ski season is imminent, but not for Teresa Grüner. The Austrian decided to end her career. At the age of only 22, she draws a line under her time in alpine skiing.

“The sun goes under for my career as a ski racer,” Grüner wrote on Instagram. The farewell is difficult for her, she would still like to run deep inside. But after several operations, long rehab phases and persistent physical problems, she could no longer take the risk.

In spring, Grüner had to undergo an intervention on the left knee again. A cyst was removed, and the meniscus was also repaired. Now she has managed to achieve a piece of normality again, as she writes herself: to go for a pain -free walk or get down a staircase. That is no longer a matter of course for them.

Grüner was known as a great talent in the Austrian youth area. Her love for skiing was unbroken, as she emphasizes in her farewell mail: “Skiing has always been more than just a sport – it is my greatest love. It gave me pure pleasure, unforgettable memories, friendships that stay, inspiring trainers who have shaped me.”
